On Thursday, September 22, the United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJCES) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the Naturally Occurring Retiring Community (NORC) at Masaryk Towers on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
Anya Herasme, Department for the Aging’s Associate Commissioner for Community Services Programs, along with Manhattan Borough President Mark D. Levine, Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou, Council Member Carlina Rivera, and honored guests spoke at the ceremony and were entertained by some great dancing and singing.
NORCs provide social services to make sure older adults are well taken care of, as well as exercise programs, and art and technology programs, while socializing with friends. UJCES has been operating two older adult centers in the community for decades, and this NORC will only expand the number of residents they are able to support.
