Mystery Rat Poison Sprinkled On Sidewalks Endangers Battery Park City Pets
Battery Park City residents are confused and angry after finding little blue pellets of rat poison sprinkled along the sidewalks of their neighborhood.
The pellets, which are small, colorful, and appealing to dogs, have already made several pets sick.
“I walked the neighborhood myself and noticed what appeared to be similar rat poisoning pellets in a tree well on Rector Place near the BPC Esplanade,” says Paula Galloway, head of the Battery Park Dog Association.
Galloway became aware of the issue when the owner of the local pet supplies store, Le Pet Spa, said a customer had reported that his dog had become ill from ingesting rat poison on the ground on South End Avenue, between Albany and Rector.
“We have sent an email notice to our members warning them of the rat poison danger,” says Galloway. “We have also alerted Community Board 1 and are in communication with the Battery Park City Authority as well.”
