Incubator Program Offering Grants to Develop Walking Tours of Lower Manhattan
The Alliance for Downtown New York is launching an incubator grant program that will fund individuals to develop walking tours of Downtown Manhattan.
The program will award grants of up to $12,500 each to five tourism entrepreneurs. They must each develop a walking tour experience that can be sustained in Lower Manhattan for at least one year. Applicants need not have walking tour experience specifically, but should “demonstrate entrepreneurial instincts and the ability to illustrate a path to success.”
The goal of the program is to create an experience that helps newcomers to the area get a personal connection to their neighborhood and for tourists to have a more comprehensive experience.
According to the Alliance for Downtown New York’s website, “Each participant will receive two one-on-one sessions with tourism industry leaders, lifetime access to an educational curriculum specifically designed for tour businesses and the insider knowledge and connections of the Downtown Alliance, which will be working together with you every step of the way.”
The deadline to apply is April 10. The expected duration of the incubator is May 10 to July 10.
